Life’s rough, get a helmet

Thanks to a generous friend and his desire not to, as he puts it, “feed me soup,” after a traumatic brain injury, I am now a legitimate, helmeted member of the cycling community. Just this morning I put the helmet on and biked to my favorite coffee shop in town to blog.

As helmets go, it’s pretty stylish. (That may be akin to saying that one toddler is a less-sticky toddler than other toddlers. All toddlers are pretty sticky, and all bike helmets are pretty unattractive.) It’s black and white and has a knob for adjusting in the back.

I am safer, though. And safe is the point.

Does anyone have any tips for looking OK in a helmet? Any recommendations for sticker decorations?

Cool helmet! I have a Specialized helmet too, and am happy to hear about another cyclist joining in on being a helmet-wearer.

I never gave a hoot about my helmet though, now that I think of it! I have considered getting cute ones, like Nutcase. And there are some people who make helmet covers. But..I like the holes because it keeps my head cool.

But stickers are a good idea! I like stickers. Check out Elly Blue at taking the lane — she has a lot of fun ones with fun sayings. I also bought a pack of reflective stickers for my wheel spokes and it came with extras — like circles — for other spots. Those might look cool. I wish I remembered the name … but if you google something about reflective bike spoke stickers I’m sure it’ll turn up (and they’re sold at REI).

Oh, and taking off the visor might help with making it look cooler =) They always looked a little odd to me. But, it’s your helmet! Do whatchu want!
